Halloween costumes

Very proud to say that despite only being in our new home a little more than a week I was able to set aside a day to make my girls their requested costumes.

Amanda wanted to be a fairy, so with her love of texture I made the bodice out of velvet and the skirt is lined in purple satin and with an over skirt of over dyed sheer with a squabble of course.  Then a set of over sized wings at a bargain price of $5 made for a happy young girl.

Don't you just love the socks!

Then Fiona wanted to be a woodland pixie.  I was firmly told that pixie don't have wings!  For this I used a dress she already owns that is a red mesh with an underlay of metallic purple.  I made the skirt as a separate item with a sparkly green sheer.  Then purchased two autumn floral pieces that I deconstructed and sewed onto the skirt, dress and a hair comb to give the woodland effect.

As luck would have it when Filna came home from school she told me that one of the local elementaries was having a Halloween Faire that evening so timing was perfect.

Back from Williamsburg, VA

This was our third visit to Williamsburg.  There is something about the history and beauty that just keep drawing me back.

As always we go for Spring break but this time we hit the beauty motherloade.  The flowers and trees were amazing.

Driving around the area was just a picture with cherry blossom and dogwood trees.
Here are my two girls in the gardens at Williamsburg.  I first made these dresses two years ago so I had to lengthen them.  Also a certain little lady wanted a bit of fuss on hers now so I added some lace around the neckline to match her sister's.  Don't you just love the Colonial foot wear?
Tulips, bluebells anemone etc just my idea of perfection.  I will have to work on the bulbs in my own garden.
Might just have to use this one as a Christmas card I love the setting with the little cottage to the rear.

Some of these pictures may have to find a place on the walls of my house.

The beach at Jamestown on a cool day.
 I will build a sandcastle!
This was at Busch gardens and is just right for these two criminals!
This was part of an amazing playground near the condos that we stay in.
Oh and I did find time to finish the third block of my Sue Spargo BOM
Checkout the woven picots, I just love the look for the center of the flower and even more of Sue's beloved bullions.
It is cool how a simple backstitch can make such a difference to a piece.

Student and teacher

Of her own bat my Fiona decided it was time to teacher Amanda how to do needlepoint.  She found an old Dora plastic canvas she hadn't done and they were off.

Amanda is of to a wonderful start and in her second session managed to thread her own needle and undo a mistake she'd made.
I always think that first recognising a mistake and then undo it is the start to understanding any new task.

As I speak Fiona is helping Amanda with her piano practise, it does have to be said that is trying her patience some what.

Last night we took them to see our local ice hockey team and Fiona was lucky enough to get a rise on the Zamboni.  She said she felt like a celebrity.

Halloween 2012

My Fiona is a girls from India so I got her an outfit from Dewsbury Market when we went to England.

Amanda decided on Cinderella so that became my opportunity for making a costume.  The lace was a bargin in the clearance section of JoAnn Etc.
